A great business lesson from Ronald Reagan

business lesson

When Ronald Reagan came out of the Reykjavik Nuclear Arms Summit with Gorbachev, he said about the agreement, “We will trust, but we will verify.”

I think that is a great business lesson, too. It’s a great rule for your employees, for your customers, for your marketing.

Say you’re working with a client and they say, “everybody loves our tacos.”

Really?

Well, we’re going to visit locations in a couple of states and we’ll go out and see.

Do people love it because there aren’t other choices? Do they say they love it because there is somebody from the company sitting in the room with them? Or, maybe it is a truly great taco.

Trust but verify. I think that works really well, when you’re running any business now.
