The Road to Kazakhstan

By Tanya Fraser July 22, 2012

Our friends Will and Tommy are driving from England to Mongolia this summer and we gave them the Fizz blog to document the adventure. You know Fizz, in for a penny in for a pound. Check back here to follow their journey.

Tommy’s Log:

How and why I drove the entire 1100 mile distance of Ukraine with its corrupt cops and roads that are paved chaos with zero traffic laws….I have no idea.

The cops hunt for bribes out of everybody!  I was dodging cops ducking behind semis and drove like Smokey and the Bandit.

Southeast Russia was basically a lesser case of ridonkulousness–but no worries Kazakhstan has reminded that roads don’t exist yet again. Its like driving the damn baja rally out here, game on!

Currenlty I am about 7000 miles from everything I know on the East Coast at a hotel that is slightly better than all of the sketchy dodgy truck stop hotels I have stayed in.

This is Atyrau, Kazakhstan and its 10:00pm.

If I were to go back to China you know what my real reason would be? puikmn yummy yum yum, good bubble tea, and juice lady! and fried banana and condensed milk. and random instrument sellers on the corner. oh yeah. and you.
