Astana to Khiva
By Tanya Fraser August 1, 2012
After leaving eastern Kazakhstan, Will and I have headed south to Uzbekistan. However, before we reached Uzbekistan, we got ourselves lost in the city of Beyneu and almost became permament guests after we couldn’t find the trail (not road, literally a dirt path) to the Uzebksitan border.
Once we found the road, we discoverd that our fuel lines had ruptured and I had to construct new fuel lines with a helpful Russian gentleman. Oh, and by the way, those fuel lines were made out of copper plumbing lines from a house! We have joined some Italians rolling deep in a van as well as two pandas in a convoy after crossing the border to Uzbekistan. After we set up shop in the desert, we got some much needed shut eye.
The following day we headed to the Aral Sea to sea a body of water that is a shadow of its former self some 50 years ago. We are currently in Khiva, Uzbekistan and are staying at a Bed and Breakfast on the inner walls of the fortified city landscape.
Check out some of what we’ve seen along the way:

Our friends Will and Tommy are driving from England to Mongolia this summer and we gave them the Fizz blog to document the adventure. You know Fizz, in for a penny in for a pound. Check back here to follow their journey.
